Tri-County Long Term Care Ombudsman Program: opportunity to become a full-time staff NYS Certified Ombudsman and to work in the field visiting residents of long-term facilities. The Tri-County Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP) is a program of the Long Term Care Community Coalition (LTCCC) and is Region 4 of the Office of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP). Region 4 includes Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties. Ombudsmen help residents understand and exercise their rights to good care in an environment that promotes and protects their dignity and quality of life. The successful applicant will be required and paid to participate in a week-long training program to become a state-certified ombudsman. Must have experience and/or a commitment to responding to residents in long-term care facilities who have multiple health conditions. The ombudsman candidate will need to drive to long-term care facilities in Rockland, Westchester, and Putnam counties for in-person visits to residents and for resident meetings. Excellent computer, telephone, and interpersonal skills required, and an enthusiastic team player sought. The successful ombudsman candidate will have the chance to participate in team meetings, State LTCOP and LTCCC calls, and continuing education webinars to meet program requirements. The candidate will do a pre-shadow visit to a nursing home before starting.
· Visiting long term care facilities four days a week and, with resident consent, advocating for residents with facility
· Providing telephone coverage in the office on non-field days
· Documenting activities and complaints and meeting monthly deadlines
· Attending resident meetings and outreach opportunities
· Completing 18 hours of continuing education annually
· Learning the NYS data reporting system
The annual salary for this position will be in the $40,000 - $50,000 range, depending on experience and education. The work week is 35 hours and includes both field and office hours. Mileage reimbursement is provided to cover your travel to long term care facilities. Benefits include vacation and fringe benefits, as well as paid holidays and personal time.
