This position is located in the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Public Health (DPH), Bureau of Environmental and Occupational Health (BEOH), Environmental Epidemiology and Surveillance Section and is maintained through a contract and ongoing partnership with the UW School of Medicine and Public Health's Department of Population Health Sciences (PHS).
The public health outreach specialist is responsible for communication and health education activities within the state's Biomonitoring Program. Through the CDC State Biomonitoring Grant, Wisconsin DHS, along with Wisconsin's State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH), and the UW-Madison Real-world Evidence to Advance Community Health (REACH) Program will conduct a biomonitoring project to measure pesticide and heavy metal levels among residents living in rural regions of the state with high prevalence of agriculture and reliance on private wells for drinking water. Specific activities include developing and implementing a communications plan for the biomonitoring project; facilitating the project's advisory group that will ensure our methods are aligned with community needs; designing, developing, and disseminating communication and health education products, including DHS website content and printed and electronic outreach and educational materials; implementing social marketing and data visualization best practices to create and disseminate program-specific communication products and messaging for outreach materials; developing and implementing strategies to effectively educate diverse audiences on programmatic activities; and maintaining the program website. This position coordinates work assignments in the performance of the Section's assigned functions and responsibilities and works with professional and support staff consisting of epidemiologists, public health educators, program managers, the UW-Madison's REACH Program, and WSLH.Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Bachelor's Degree in communications or health education
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of experience working in the field of communications or health education
- Technical expertise in standard Microsoft Office, Adobe (e.g., InDesign, Illustrator) applications or similar design software, and experience with web content management software;
- Experience conducting communications needs assessment and applying the results to guide design and implementation of communications plan.
Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

Minimum $58,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The minimum salary for the position is $58,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
